Red Sox, Tigers talking Lugo deal.

...Really? You mean, we'll finally be getting rid of Julio Lugo? Really? REALLY? HE'LL BE GONE?! ACTUALLY GONE?!

Happy day!

(Dude, Tigers must be fucking desperate for infielders if they're willing to trade a pitcher for Julio Lugo. Not complaining, he'll be GONE!)

Also, Dustin Pedroia wins the AL Silver Slugger award! A Silver Slugger and a Gold Glove - truly, Pedroia is The Little Engine That Could Kick Your Ass. (For the non-rabid Sox fans on my flist, Pedroia is listed at 5'9" when in reality, he's probably 5'6". He's short and plucky, but is probably the most gung-ho player in the Sox clubhouse. Pedroia. Is. AWESOME.) Now, we just need to make sure he makes AL MVP. COME ON, HE TOTALLY DESERVES IT!

No news yet about Varitek, although the Red Sox site says he's at the top of the Sox's off-season to do list. On the one hand, I'd love to have him stay on, as he is the team captain. On the other hand, watching him bat is almost physically painful.

Sigh. Only a few more months until spring training starts...

(I need to post about my WoW ramblings over at [livejournal.com profile] alt_aholics soon.)
The eighth [livejournal.com profile] randompulp challenge is now up. (And we'd dearly love more members; it's so lonely with only five people! *puppy eyes*)

Also, a few rants.

1) NaNoWriMo. It's only the third day, but I think I hate it. Yesterday I stared at my Word Processor for a good ten minutes, exchanged baffled looks with my muses, and swore a blue streak. This quickly has become something akin to work for me and I've always written because it's fun and I love doing it. Writing fifty thousand words in thirty days or less is an impressive achievement, yes, but I refuse to write crap to meet that. I love and respect my stories and my characters and I want to use them in works I'd be proud to show off.

Plus, y'know, [livejournal.com profile] randompulp challenges keep me on my toes in terms of character and world development. I mean, Hell, I didn't think I'd ever have Nora and Sav babysit dragons.

Ugh. I'll stick it out for a few more days, but I shouldn't be apprehensive about opening up a document in Word.

2) 'Tek rumors. Word on the grapevine is is that the Tigers are interested in Jason Varitek. Seeing as how this rumor was started by Scott Boras (who, as Bill Simmons so deftly put it, is "one of the worst human beings in America who hasn't actually committed a crime") and just how much the Tigers are in need of young talent, I find this laughable. DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF SCOTT BORAS'S MOUTH, especially since this is obviously an attempt to start a bidding war over Varitek's contract. As painful it is to watch Varitek bat (almost as painful as watching Mike Timlin pitch), he is the best catcher the Sox have. He has the best relationship with our pitchers, something neither Kevin Cash nor our prospects in the minors can boast. I'd like to see 'Tek return next season, but at this point I can't predict what the Sox front office will do.

...Other than that, I know of no other trade or free agent talks the Sox are involved in at the moment. Time to scour the Internet.

3) IEAH. They just bought Stardom Bound (winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, shoe-in for Champion Two Year Old Filly) for a whopping $5.7 million and to say I'm pissed off would be an understatement. IEAH is buying up the good talent almost as fast as Coolmore and the sheikhs (and if Godolphin/Darley/whatever had gotten a hold of Stardom Bound, you'd still be hearing my screams of rage) and to top it all off they send the filly to train with RICK FUCKING DUTROW. I hate Rick Dutrow just as much as Scott Boras, if not more so.

Right, I think I'm going to go read for a bit, get my blood pressure down.

EDIT 12:38 AM: Starting to freak out about my voter registration status. I haven't gotten any information from the Boston Elections Department, I haven't gotten any responses to my e-mails, I can't get a hold of anyone at the department on the phone... I'm really, really worried I won't be able to vote tomorrow.

Ugh.

Currently at 1,207 words for NaNoWriMo, with about four hundred more to go at least. I'm already feeling grumbly about the whole thing; on the one hand this is great practice for writing something long and detailed, and on the other hand I'm so much better at getting my point across in as few words as possible. (*coughcoughzombiestorycoughcough*)

Ugh, I'm going to be tearing my hair out by Wednesday, I know it.

*facedesk*

Whew

Oct. 28th, 2008 12:20 am
[livejournal.com profile] randompulp challenge is now finished.

Awesome. One down, one more story to go, and an outline to finish before NaNoWriMo begins Saturday. (And possibly a vaguely-cracky full-blown AU of epic proportions if I have the energy.)

Oh, Lordie.
Finally got the new challenge post up at [livejournal.com profile] randompulp so that's one less thing to worry about.

(I've said it before, I'll say it again: I will never stop pimping out my writing challenge comm. Deal with it.)

Freezing my butt off; this house is cold. I'm wearing two pairs of socks, sweat pants, a t-shirt, a sweatshirt with the hood pulled up, a jacket, and a shawl. Going to go make some hot chocolate before I settle in to watch The Lost Evidence: The Battle of Britain on History International and convince my cat to move over and share the damn blanket while ignoring her Glare of Doom.

Right, hot chocolate needs to be made before my fingers freeze.

P.S. Irked that Zenyatta won't be in the Breeder's Cup Classic (though this means I can cheer for Casino Drive with a clear conscious), but I'm totally going to enjoy the grudge match between her and Ginger Punch in the Ladies' Classic. It's going to be an awesome race.
Applications for the spring semester at BU and Northeastern: done.

[livejournal.com profile] randompulp challenge: done.

I can finally focus on the game properly. Awesome.

EDIT 12:36 AM: I say to the Tampa fans what I said to the team: welcome to the postseason, bitches.
Essay for the Common Application: Nearly done, just requires a few more sentences and some editing before I send it off and my college applications are done.
[livejournal.com profile] randompulp challenge: Have idea, will use it, in preliminary stages, haven't the faintest idea how I'm going to use "malaria" yet.
Watchers 'verse zombie story: A quarter to a third written, on temporary hiatus until the other two get done unless the muses hit me over the head.

And the Phillies are going to the World Series. Yay, Phillies!

Still haven't decided which of my new books to read (they all seem so good, it's hard to pick), so I've been reading my old Tamora Pierce books for the Hell of it in the meantime.

Also, I really need to stop going to bed at 1:30, no matter how awesome Craig Ferguson is. It's screwing with my sleep patterns.

Woot!

Challenge six over at [livejournal.com profile] randompulp has begun! Join and sign up today!

(No, I will never stop pimping out my writing challenge comm. I love it too much and we need more than four people, dammit all.)

Billy's home! Again, yes. He's got a Remicade appointment on Monday (woot, Columbus Day weekend!), hence his travails by bus. He had us howling with laughter about the ineptitude of the driver. And his ideas for Halloween costumes. And other things.

College is corrupting my twin brother. Rawr.

Anyway, for those of you interested, [livejournal.com profile] barcelona_pho and I are getting [livejournal.com profile] randompulp started up again. I'll be posting the new challenge at around midnight EST, so if you want in, please join!

Okay, time to bother Billy again.

Oh, hell.

See icon.

Writer's block has hit me for my latest [livejournal.com profile] randompulp challenge and I am NOT pleased with myself.

It doesn't help I've been distracted by Olympic swimming, gymnastics, eventing, and dressage for most of the week.

*grumbles* Stupid muses. Stupid writer's block. Stupid pretty distractions.

*hums*

Got my challenge posted to [livejournal.com profile] randompulp, yay. Not wholly pleased with it, but I like it well enough.

All right, time for snuggles with the Bam-Bam.
Holy God, just got back from the Cape.

Mom and I decided to go visit Dad and Billy, who were working on the house down there for the day. So we got there about noon and looked around; the new floorboards have been put in, the stairs are finished, and they're working on removing the stones from the patio to put them on the other side of the house, although for the most part the place is still gutted. Still, the downstairs is going to be very spacious.

We went to lunch at Kream N' Kone - best fried seafood on the Cape! And fries. And onion rings. And soft serve ice cream (twenty-four flavors!). The boys promised to stop by before they headed home themselves and pick up a bucket of fried scallops because OMG THEY ARE SO GOOD.

Ahem.

Went back to the house, Mom and Dad chatted a bit about the renovation while Billy did some yard work and I read. After they finished up, Ma and I packed the car up and headed back home. I slept most of the way and Jesus, my neck is killing me. Woke up long enough for when we went over the Sagamore Bridge, because the view's so pretty - you can see all the way to Massachusetts Bay.

And now I have ideas stewing in my head for the rest of my challenge at [livejournal.com profile] randompulp. To writing!
Got my challenge for [livejournal.com profile] randompulp finished and posted. I really like how well it turned out and it never mutated on me, which is very nice.

Still need to finalize the list of books I want to take with me to college. And the other stuff. And then pack up the rest of my personal library so it can be moved down to the house on the Cape. Good God.

Watching the game. Am most pleased with Jason Bay so far, but it's just going into the top of the fourth so I'm not going to pass final judgment just yet. Francona looks ten years younger, though, especially after that fiasco Wednesday night.

Dear God, please don't let us get trounced by the A's of all teams. Thanks.

Rage!

Pulling my hair out in frustration at the moment. Every fucking year after the All-Star break, the Sox pull this shit. I love my team, I really do, but it's hard to give and show the love when they are SUCKING LIKE HELL.

Goddammit. I don't want the fucking Devil Rays to win the division, that's so wrong on so many levels.

In brighter news, got lots of stuff done for the third challenge at [livejournal.com profile] randompulp and am immensely pleased with how my story is going. It's actually going exactly as I planned, which is unusual but I won't question it. Actually having a writing groove is refreshing.

FUCKING HELL, YOUKILIS! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO CATCH THOSE, NOT DIVE AND MISS!

*facedesk*
Ho hum. Got my latest challenge for [livejournal.com profile] randompulp finished and posted.

For those of you interested, from Challenge 03 onwards, all members of [livejournal.com profile] randompulp can participate in the challenges! [livejournal.com profile] barcelona_pho and I need to hammer out the final details, but the challenge in full and its rules will hopefully be posted on the comm sometime tonight. If you're looking to keep your writing skills sharp, please join!

In other news, I have become completely obsessed with stupid online pet games. -_-; Not Neopets or Subeta, thank God, I'd never live down the shame, but more simple places like Dragon Cave and Valenth. At least the people on their forums have better grammar and spelling and some damned maturity... I'm going to blame my old friend Lightstep for this, she's the one who first sent me that cursed link! *mutters*

Also, trying to figure out which books to bring with me to college. Not having fun. I've got a list, but I keep fighting the urge to add on to it, and I really don't want to until I get a better sense of how much room I'll have at Smith. This is especially true because, since I am Murphy's favorite bitch, I'm in Gardiner House's sole three person dorm. *headdesk* My roommates are nice girls, but damnit, I was really hoping for a single! Oh well, maybe next year.

And to top it all off, I have the song Move Your Dead Bones from the Beyond Re-Animator movie stuck in my head. It's disturbingly catchy... You're going to pay for this, [livejournal.com profile] predikit!

So, for the past few months I have been impatiently waiting for the College Board to score my AP exams and tell me just how awesome I am.

Well, today I finally got my scores.

English Literature and Composition: 5
Government and Politics - United States: 5

Oh yeah. I rule.

P.S. [livejournal.com profile] randompulp! [livejournal.com profile] randompulp! [livejournal.com profile] randompulp!
So, I got another story written! Any maybe I'll get some goddamn feedback this time! *glares at flist*

It's over at a new writing comm [livejournal.com profile] barcelona_pho and I set up. It's called [livejournal.com profile] randompulp. We got tired of just bitching about having trouble writing, so we decided we'd issue each other writing challenges on a regular basis to keep the creative juices flowing and post the results somewhere to show off. She's still working on her challenge, but I've finished mine and posted it at the comm.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go read it!
