Sooooo I seem to be writing fanfic again.

I blame [ profile] me_challenge. I'm a long-time lurker both there and at [ profile] masseffect, so I see the alerts about the Weekly Insanity Round going up and it's like, "Hey, drabbles!" so I scurry over to the challenge comm and read and giggle and coo and aww and everything else. Nothing out of the ordinary.

But the week before last, I really, really liked one of the prompts, and decided to write something for it, and it felt awesome. And then I decided to post them on FanFiction.Net, hive of scum and villainy that it is.

And then last week I filled out two more prompts. I've posted them at the Pit of Voles now, too.

You can probably see where this is going.

I will probably do another prompt for this week's Insanity Round, but in the meantime, I've been writing more fic. On my own time. I haven't done that shit in years.

Y'see, one of the prompts I did for last week was "Miranda, downtime," so I wrote a quick little ficlet about Miranda in her off-duty hours, and while I'm not normally much of a Miranda fan, I do not actively dislike her, and I found myself really liking seeing Miss Cerberus let her hair down, as it were. And then a few reviewers said, "Hey, this is good!" And I blushed, because holy crap people apparently like my oddball ideas. "Will you continue this?" they asked, and I shook my head because Lord, Miranda was okay, but I wasn't going to spend all my damn time writing about her. "No, no, we mean continue this and use the other squadmates. And Joker, can't forget Joker," they said.

Open mouth.

Close mouth.

Tilt head to one side.

Look down.

Oh, hey there little plot bunny, aren't you just the cutest-

Aw, crap.

So. Besides Miranda, I've written similar ficlets starring Tali, Kasumi, and Jacob, which I will be posting over the next few days as I don't want to post them all in one lump. I have ideas outlined for Legion, Jack, Zaeed, Garrus, and my FemShep (and her piece will be posted last), and still need to figure out what the hell I'm going to do for Grunt, Mordin, Samara, Thane, and Joker. I'm currently working on the Legion fic, or at least trying to, because son of a bitch how the hell am I supposed to write in the third person limited about a gestalt-consciousness of some 1,000 individual programs all living in one synthetic body?

Sigh. I'll figure something out, I guess.

Can't believe I'm even doing this, but the bunnies and muses haven't been this active in months. I'll take what I can get.

(P.S. Would, um, anyone like me to post my little ficlets here rather than have to swim through the landfill that's FF.Net?)

Right, so, for the past week or so I've been slowly but surely working my way through the entirety of Neon Genesis Evangelion (subbed, thank you) as on YouTube.

I'm watching it for the fucking nostalgia factor.

I could watch Cowboy Bebop, Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, Ronin Warriors or even fucking Pokemon and have my nostalgia craving fully satisfied, but noooooo. My brain decides, "Hey, let's watch an anime about an emotional abused teenage boy abandoned by his father who has to pilot a biomechanical walking skyscraper that contains the soul of his dead mother and regularly goes batshit crazy; an anime that will give me mood whiplash like CRAZY; an anime that will cause me to bawl my eyes out (episode 24); an anime that will make me want to lose my lunch (episode 19 but ESPECIALLY episode 18 and let's not even discuss End of Evangelion); and an anime that is considered the GREATEST MIND FUCK OF ALL TIME."

No popcorn, but I have Wheat Thins. And The Empire Strikes Back on TV. Oooh, Battle of Hoth, you remain one of my most favorite battle scenes in all of Star Wars, right after the capital-ship-on-capital-ship action that is the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi. Squee!

Yes, I'm a Star Wars fangirl. This is not new.

Proper update later, there is a battle to watch!

P.S. Yay, General Veers!

P.P.S. Silly AT-AT designers. There's a reason the weaponsmakers of today make sure tanks have low centers of gravity!

So, I finally started playing WoW again.

Yeah. Bye-bye, soul. Nice knowing you.

*facedesk* I am so weak-willed.

No, damnit, Muses! Back! Stay back! Don't you DARE put that crossover in my head! That's unholy! It's wrong! I DON'T CARE IF HE'D MAKE A GREAT PALADIN! Don't you fucking dare! There is a line between crack and wrong, and you're crossing it! I will not put the boys of Easy in Azeroth! Get back, ye demons of the pit! BACK I SAY!

Ugliest. Profile Design. Ever. I've already said so on the post at [ profile] lj_design about it, but I don't think I'll be renewing my paid account come March. I like my icons, but nothing is worth something so vile and aesthetically displeasing.

Right, so, errand-time didn't happen because Mom (nor I, honestly) wanted to go out on a Sunday afternoon. So instead I spent most of my day doing more reading and I fervently love Glen Cook now. Another fantasy author says of him, "Reading his stuff is like reading Vietnam War fiction on peyote," and hot damn if he isn't right.

Tales of the Black Company is a compilation of the first three books in the series (The Black Company, Shadows Linger, and The White Rose) and are all told from the point of view of the Company's physician/surgeon/medic/what-have-you, Croaker, who also serves as the Company's Annalist/historian. Cook doesn't waste words and is generally very sparse when it comes to descriptions, which I find immensely refreshing as many authors rely too much on description. Since this is a dark fantasy, not everything is sunshine and roses, but Cook inserts enough humor that you don't get needlessly overwhelmed by the grim atmosphere.

To reiterate: I love Glen Cook. My Pantheon of Literary Gods now has a new member.

The downside to this is that now I've got mercenary company on the brain; this is nothing new for me, back in my roleplaying days I was found of playing lone mercenaries and even managed the Mercenary Guild at one site (ah, memories), and typically I return to the concept every now and then when I write. However, since I've also been mentally outlining how I want my Brindlewood (my high fantasy/steampunk hybrid) story to go for NaNoWriMo, I've been expanding my cast of characters and know I want a mercenary company coming to Brindlewood as an escort for a merchant caravan. (A cavalry company, of course, to satisfy my inner horse lover.)

Normally, not a problem.

The problem arises when my dastardly, conniving muses decide to throw one of my favorite fandoms into the mix as some messed up tribute. Like, say, the Captain is a lanky redhead, soft-spoken but a brilliant leader. And his lieutenants include his hard-drinking best friend, a brash but charming officer with a gap-toothed grin, and a ruthless field commander with a shadowy reputation. Not to mention the rest of the company. Radically different names, of course.

Some of you will know exactly what I am talking about.

And I can feel the muses grinning at me evilly. Damn, damn, damn, I won't let that particular idea take over my brain, I won't! I have a challenge to write and a zombie story to finish and NaNoWriMo to participate in!

All right, now that I've had my freak out moment, I am calm and cool and collected - mostly; I'm chugging my Coca-Cola Vanilla Zero like mad right now and the caffeine's going to kick in soon.

So, because I am a wee bit bored, it's time for a meme.

Give me a fandom and I will tell you who I would:

1. bake cupcakes for:
2. trust with the keys to my car:
3. put thumbtacks on their chair:
4. have a crush on:
5. pack up and leave if they moved next door:
6. vote for President:
7. pick as my partner in a buddy movie:
8. pair up:
9. vote off the island and into the volcano:
10. wheedle into fixing my MP3 player:

Since I don't generally talk about my fandoms very much, here's a list of things I would/could confidently answer for:

The Firebringer Trilogy (well, duh, it's my One True Fandom), Band of Brothers, Fables, Hellsing, The Lord of the Rings, Cowboy Bebop, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles & xxxHolic (yes, I'm lumping them into fandom for the time being, shut up), Stargate: SG-1, Sailor Moon (ah, nostalgia), The Great Escape, the Black Jewels Trilogy, and whatever else you could come up with.

I'd found out recently that one of my favorite anime of all time, Cowboy Bebop, was being turned into a live action film. And I squealed, long and loud and so high-pitched only dogs could hear it. Of course it wouldn't be as great as the original anime, but I'd still go see it - it's Cowboy Bebop! I was a happy, happy fangirl.

And then I found a rumor about Keanu Reeves playing the lead character, Spike Spiegel.

I really, really hope it's just a rumor. Dear God, if You have any compassion and mercy left within You, please let it be a rumor.

I'm going to go curl up in a corner and cry my eyes out, now.

Oh, God, I'm suddenly terrified by who they'd get to play Vicious.
Since Sunday night, I have been working on a "Five Things That Never Happened..." challenge for the Firebringer Trilogy (my most favorite books OF ALL TIME) very shortly after I read [ profile] bardicsidhe's most recent post. I have done little else, save watch a few YouTube videos, bitch about the Sox with my dad, and chat on AIM.

I have countless plotbunnies sitting at my feet, which means countless ideas, all of which are vividly clear in my head. I have three written and am struggling with the fourth. The muses are not fucking cooperating.

I am frustrated beyond belief because I really want to finish this set of five, even if I don't write anymore what-if scenarios down. I'm actually proud of what I've written so far because they're first drafts - I typically have to write a story over three times before I'm fine with it. I'm hoping venting about my inability to articulate what I've got in my head will help me buckle down to finishing the last two scenes.

Capricious muses will not get the best of me!

Two things!

One: Manny hit 500th home run last night! BOOYAH! Instant Hall of Fame access, right there!

Two: BAND OF BROTHER IS ON HISTORY CHANNEL. *high-pitched shriek of glee*

Happy fangirl overload right now. Must do the happy squirmy puppy dance.*

Well, it's been an obscenely long time since I was last here, hasn't it? Apologies: school and college applications. Oi vey.

Having recently seen the SciFi mini-series Tin Man, I have quickly become a rabid Cain/DG 'shipper. Sure, the show itself wasn't entirely great (too rushed at points, ending was lackluster, script writers needed to be shot at some point), but it was better than what Skiffy usually pumps out, the characters were awesome, so was the story, and I have a new fandom.

Bring me fic and icons! *scuttles off*

Okay, new look for journal. Is purdy now, yes.

Two: Stargate premieres.

I'm still in sci-fi fangirl geek happiness overload, so I can't do a proper homage to the awesomeness I watched tonight. Still, I lurve Vala's dress (I wants it and I want to cosplay in it bad), her kid freaks me out, and Michael in Atlantis needs a hug and I think he's my new favorite character.

So, lots of crap to be endured since my last entry.

Saturday, NAHSMUN. It sucked. ICJ just pissed me off. Blergh. And on the ride home in the rented van, I went to turn off the overhead lamp (which had apparently been on for hours), and as I pulled my hand back, my thumb brushed against the so-called 'guard' and got seriously burned. I mean ow, and I don't have much pain tolerance to begin with anyway. So when I finally got to flop in the comfy chair when I got home at 6, I just slept until 2 AM before trudging up to bed.

Sunday, didn't go to Anime Boston. Just too damned exhausted. Did, however, finally buy Kingdom Hearts II. *maniacal laughter*

Monday, was going to go visit Aunt Roo at the Bourne National Cemetary. However, sudden emeregence of the Cold From Hell and really sticky-hot weather cancelled those plans. Plus the drive home would have been sucky.

All this week, suffering from cold still. Grah. I don't deserve this kinda shit so close to the end of school.

Tomorrow, SAT II World History. Not worried. It's history. My idea of a good time is ranting about how much of a military genius Patton was, how much of an idiot I think Montgomery was, and gushing over the leetness that is a perfectly executed battle plan. And the hot-sexiness of those black leather trenchcoats Nazi officers wore. Mrow.

Shonen Jump came yesterday. Yay! The whale in One Piece was so awesome. XP I wants one! And DBZ ends - YAY! Finally, no more of that god-aweful thing. And next issue there's a sneak peak of Zombie Powder by Tite Kubo. O_O OMGWTFBBQ! *squeal of joy*

Book stuff? While I'm not writing the whole thing yet, I've been scribbling down sporadic scenes as they pop into my head; helps me figure out certain stuff. Eitan is turning into a smug little angelic man-bitch, book!DT is wonderfully snarky, and things make sense! To me, anyway. I threw out everything I didn't need, rebuilt my versions of Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory, and I am satisfied. :)

Okay, yeah, time to go back to trolling through old fics. *pokes [ profile] chrissy_sky* I found Parody From Hell on Hon, you have got to repost that baby somewhere, it still makes me laugh out loud. ^_^

Oh, most definitely an excellent weekend so far!

First, Team USA kicked South Africa's ass yesterday in the World Baseball Classic. 17-0. They called in the 15-or-more-runs-in-5-innings mercy rule. XP I may hate Roger Clemens's guts for his time as a Yankee, but I can't deny he is the one pitcher that no one, no one, walks away unscatched from. All hail The Rocket.

Second, returned to my video game kick. Played a bit of Kingdom Hearts yesterday (kicking Sephiroth's ass is really, really satisfying) before starting a new game of Final Fantasy X. I spooked my brother because he'd never seen me play it and he wasn't used to voice acting in a Final Fantasy game. XP Can't say I blame him, although we got a kick from making fun of the dialogue. And my love for Auron has been reaffirmed, yeeesss. Mmhm, I adore his voice actor.

Last, but certainly not least, the season finales of Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis.

I had never believed in spontaneous orgasms until last night.

The writing was excellent. I honestly could not tell where the writers were going except from what was slightly revealed in the commercial previews. I admit to some minor doubts about season 9 of SG-1 (oh come on, there was no Jack, you can't fault me for that), but this season finale (especially the very ending) brought me back to the Land of Screaming Faithful Nerds. To the director, writers, and producers of SG-1: I LOVE YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH. Here's my soul back!

As for Atlantis... Ooh, my head was being taken in two different directions. *delightful shiver* One part of me said blow the suckers up, the other was going "Yays for the Hive!" But that ENDING. *moans* Oh, sweet Jesus, and I was still recovering from the SG-1 finale ending. Talk about massive overload to the sense. To the director, writers, and producers of Atlantis: MARRY ME.

I love being a geek.

Oh God, so high on cold medication.

I can't remember Friday afternoon very well. Only clearly remember trip to bookstore. Ordered the new She Wants Revenge CD. Bought some books, too.

Saiyuki Reload volume 2
Kingdom Hearts volume 1
Bleach volume 11
Vampire Hunter D: Demon Deathchase by Hideyuki Kikuchi
Catherine: The Great Journey by Kristiana Gregory
Storm Warning by Mercedes Lackey

Oh. And the Phantom of the Opera 2-disc Collector's Edition Official Movie Soundtrack.

Phantom of the Opera music (specifically Gerard Butler's voice) is porn for the ears.

Anywhoot, after 5 PM Friday everything is one big blur. I can't remember watching Stargate: SG-1 at all. And I all I can recall of Atlantis was recognizing the bald guy as having hosted maybe an Egypt special on the History Channel and that Sheppard slept with someone who wasn't McKay. Pretty sure this elevates Shep to the status of whore and damn I think I just weirded out everyone in the room because I just said that aloud. (They're blaming the drugs, and so I am.)

Yesterday? I can only remember ear porn (read: PotO soundtrack on continuous loop on my CD player) and reading Storm Warning. Gonna have to read it again, all I remember is lots of gibberish about magic.

Today I read four uber-awesome Warcraft fics (yes, 'tis a series), set between WCIII and WoW. Dude, they rocked so damn much. My favorite of the lot was the fourth (and latest) of the series, Unlikely Heroes: The Harpy Queen Skrch. Yes, that is an unofficial recommendation from the DT. The fact that I could read these without having to go reread the official Warcraft lore on the WoW site or detailed summaries of the RTS games was wonderfully refreshing, although for someone completely unfamiliar with the Warcraft universe, you probably should go take peek at some background information before reading.

And yeah. I'm going to zone out on my drugs some more while Dad bitches about the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meh. I only care for the commercials.

[Edit: 8:06 PM] *twitch* Oh my GOD, I never want to see an old man move his hips like that again! *claws at eyes* (In case you need enlightenment, I'm talking about Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones.)
So, I've been on a Mercedes Lackey kick again. Tore through Brightly Burning and Exile's Honor (so much luff for Alberich - kinda reminds of Auron, actually) yesterday, and this morning I read Arrows of the Queen. *cuddles Talia* There's some inconsistancy going on, but I blame that on the fact that Misty's been writing these books for twenty years and not in chronological order. Like, in BB and everything post-Tedrel Wars, Rolan is the Monarch's Own Companion, but in EH that Companion is Taver. o.O Maybe Rolan took a vacation to the Havens during the in-between time? And, the arrows-as-code thingie in the Arrows trilogy - why was that not in all the other Valdemar books? It's a damned cool idea that I would have loved to have seen elsewhere, especially since it sounds like it would be very effective during the interm time between the Herald-Mage eras.

To the 14th Division: the lot of you will end killing me by saying something that will make me laugh to death. Bunch of sadists. Still love you guys.

And Dad bought a new printer.

And it's got a scanner.

And Stargate last night! Yay!

Cut for spoilers and DT salivating like the fangirl she is. )

And before I forget...
